The Lawson Academy, founded by Dr. Alia Ross Lawson, has offered the Converse, Spartanburg, and surrounding upstate community, music and dance lessons since 1944.

Lawson Academy has been the Post and Courier 2025-2026, and 2026-2027 winner as the “Best Place for Music Lessons!”
This recital, in collaboration with Director and Pianist Janae O’Shields, will present the students of Dr. Turner’s studio, including Willow Brooks, Victoria Byers, Katie Hawk, Strong Jones, Easton Speer, Isaac Turner, Ross Vicario, Jamie Waldrop, and Rebecca Whitener.
Selections include favorites from musicals such as “Naughty” from Matilda, “I’m Not Afraid of Anything” from Songs For A New World, and “Santa Fe” from Newsies, as well top hits, including “That’s What Friends are For” by Dionne Warwick.
