The Lawson Academy, founded by Dr. Alia Ross Lawson, has offered the Converse, Spartanburg, and surrounding upstate community, music and dance lessons since 1944.

On Thursday, May 1, 2025, the students of Dr. T. J. Turner, tenor, and other guests will perform classical and pop selections, including “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Mis and more. Dr. Turner will serve as the accompanist for his students.
This “Musical Gathering” is free and open to the public. It will begin at 6 p.m. in the Lawson Academy Recital Hall at Converse University.
