You can trust Dr. Turner with Your Voice

It takes both an experienced singer and educated professional to make a good voice teacher. You are trusting someone with the longevity and vulnerability of your personal instrument. Dr. T. J. Turner has years of college teaching and private voice experience including performing, teaching, and graduate schooling.

Dr. T. J. Turner, tenor, was named one of Memphis’s Top 20 Under 35 in 2023. He received positive reviews of his “crystalline high tenor” that was “a delight to listen to” in his professional debut as The Doctor in The Handmaid’s Tale with GLOW Lyric Theatre (Opera Wire). He also performed in Wicked Star Kristin Chenoweth’s My Love Letter to Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York, NY and with Andrea Bocelli and Renée Fleming in collaboration with Opera Carolina and Opera Memphis. He has also opened events featuring Ms. Fleming and Dionne Warwick.

Dr. Turner earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Voice Performance and Opera Stage Directing from the University of Memphis, TN, where he received the Graduate Document Award. He also holds degrees from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC, and Furman University, Greenville, SC. Dr. Turner is currently Instructor of Voice and Musical Theatre at Converse University. He previously served on the faculties of Lander University, Spartanburg Methodist College, and Coahoma Community College. He continues to perform throughout the southeast. Read more.

Scheduling

Voice lessons are offered in durations of:

  1. 30 minutes @ $35.00
  2. 45 minutes @ $51.00
  3. 60 minutes @ $68.00

Lessons are offered in person or online via Zoom Monday through Friday, all year from January through December. Students may choose to attend lessons once a week or every other week (limited availability). You may also schedule coachings as needed if you need audition advising or to work on specific repertoire at an hourly rate. You may sign up at any time by clicking the Enroll Now button below. Payment is accepted by Venmo or PayPal (online lessons), or invoiced by the Lawson Academy (in person lessons).
